1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Arlen Speckman, Graduate
4 Realtors Institute, Certified Residential Broker, Certified
5 Residential Specialist, on being named the 1998 Illinois
6 Realtor of the Year; and
7 WHEREAS, Arlen Speckman is a graduate of Central High
8 School at Clifton and attended the University of Illinois,
9 where he graduated with an agricultural education degree; he
10 went on to work at the Chicago Stock Yards, selling cattle to
11 meat packers; and
12 WHEREAS, From 1968 to 1970 Arlen Speckman made a career
13 change when he went to work for his uncle, Ray Speckman; in
14 1947 his uncle had opened the first full-service realty
15 business in Kankakee County; from 1970 to 1975 Arlen returned
16 to the cattle brokering business, and in 1975 went back into
17 realty upon his uncle's retirement and his acquiring of the
18 business; and
19 WHEREAS, Arlen Speckman was president of the
20 then-Kankakee Board of Realtors in 1982, having served as
21 second vice-president and first vice-president; he was named
22 the Kankakee Board of Realtors Realtor of the Year in 1983;
23 Mr. Speckman served for three years on the Board of Directors
24 for the IAR Realtors Political Action Committee and served as
25 IAR District Vice President in 1984 and 1985; he served as
26 IAR president in 1990; and
27 WHEREAS, Arlen Speckman has been involved in the Kankakee
28 River Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club, Habitat
29 for Humanity, and the YMCA; therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 congratulate Arlen Speckman on being named the 1998 Illinois
2 Realtor of the Year; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Arlen Speckman, along with our sincere regards.
