1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to honor Lincoln Park High School on the
4 celebration of its centennial; and
5 WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School, formerly known as
6 Waller High School, is one of the few remaining high schools
7 in Chicago still housed in it's original building;
8 eighty-five percent of the Lincoln Park High School graduates
9 go on to attend college; Lincoln Park High School is
10 recognized as being one of the top high schools in Chicago;
11 they are held up as a model of cultural, ethnic, racial, and
12 economic diversity; and
13 WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School is a college
14 preparatory school; in 1997 over one hundred and fifty
15 colleges worldwide accepted Lincoln Park graduates; and
16 WHEREAS, Examples of Lincoln Park High School's program
17 achievements include: more superior ratings than any other
18 high school within the State at the Illinois State History
19 fair; twenty-four students won the top honors in media,
20 performance, exhibits, and papers; two of the projects
21 advanced to national competition; the Lincoln Park High
22 School Academic Decathlon Team captured second place in the
23 State competition; the students recorded the highest team
24 score in the school's history and the highest score of any
25 second place team in Illinois State tournament history; and
26 WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School has the only officially
27 credentialed International Baccalaureate Program in Chicago;
28 there only three such programs within the State of Illinois;
29 and
30 WHEREAS, In 1997, fifty-eight Lincoln Park High School
31 seniors were Illinois Scholar Finalists; in 1997, the Lincoln

1 Park High School Math team won first place in the City of
2 Chicago tournament, winning against over sixty other teams;
3 and
4 WHEREAS, Lincoln Park High School is an asset to the City
5 of Chicago, and to the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 salute Lincoln Park High School, The Lions, on their
9 centennial year; may they continue to provide good, solid
10 education to their students, and may they continue to be a
11 benefit to Chicago and Illinois; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Lincoln Park High School.
