1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, On August 16, 1940 the United States Army
3 Parachute Test Platoon made its first official parachute
4 jump; and
5 WHEREAS, The 82nd Airborne Division Association wishes to
6 make August 16 a national day of remembrance for all the
7 United States to remember this historic event; and
8 WHEREAS, On May 25, 1997, U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond
9 submitted a U.S. Senate Resolution designating August 16,
10 1997 as National Airborne Day; and
11 WHEREAS, We would like to see this day, August 16,
12 recognized as National Airborne Day throughout the United
13 States forever; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16 hereby proclaim August 16, 1998 as National Airborne Day in
17 the State of Illinois; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That we urge U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond to
19 ensure the passage pf the U.S. Senate Resolution designating
20 August 16 as National Airborne Day; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 forwarded to U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond.
