1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Hildegarde "Hildy" de
4 los Santos on being the recipient of the Pride of Pilsen
5 Award for outstanding service to the community; and
6 WHEREAS, The 1998 Pride of Pilsen Award will be presented
7 by the Pilsen Together Chamber of Commerce to Mrs. de los
8 Santos on May 8, 1998; and
9 WHEREAS, Mrs. de los Santos was born in Puerto Rico; she
10 earned her Bachelor's degree from Northeastern Illinois
11 University in 1978; she attended the Erickson Institute and
12 completed Advanced Studies in Child Development and Education
13 in 1986; she received her Master's degree in Education from
14 Loyola University of Chicago in 1990; and
15 WHEREAS, Mrs. de los Santos is married to Raymond Santos;
16 she has three children, Jose Vega, Jr., Marisol Vega, and
17 David Alvarez; she has three grandchildren, Jose Vega III,
18 Jessica Vega, and Vincent Alvarez; and
19 WHEREAS, Mrs. de los Santos is a life long resident of
20 the Pilsen community; she was instrumental in bringing
21 millions of dollars in empowerment zone money to the
22 Pilsen-Little Village communities; she has had a key role in
23 teaching parents early childhood development education; she
24 has been involved in providing comprehensive quality day care
25 and after school programs for over twenty years; and
26 WHEREAS, From 1982 to 1985, Mrs. de los Santos worked for
27 the Duncan Young Men's Christian Association as the Site
28 Director for the Child Care Program; she was the Associate
29 Director of the Office of Child Care Services for the YMCA of
30 Metropolitan Chicago from 1986 to 1993; from 1993 to the
31 present day she has served as the Executive Director of the

1 Pilsen YMCA; Mrs. de los Santos is an inspiration and a role
2 model for the young women of her community who want to become
3 a child development advocate; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate Mrs. Hildegarde de los Santos on receiving the
7 1998 Pride of Pilsen Award; through her hard work and
8 dedication to her community she has shown that she truly
9 deserved the accolades bestowed upon her; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Mrs. Hildegarde de los Santos, with our sincere
12 regards.
