90_HR0471 LRB9012153CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Monday, May 18, 1998, will be the one year 3 anniversary of President Clinton's challenge to the nation's 4 researchers to find an AIDS vaccine within a decade; and 5 WHEREAS, Chicago is one of eight cities in the nation 6 which is participating in the first HIV Vaccine trial which 7 has reached Phase II of development; this development comes 8 as the result of the efforts of the 255 men and women (of 9 which 39 are Chicagoans) who have volunteered to participate 10 in this Phase II trial across the country; and 11 WHEREAS, In Chicago, this trial is being conducted by the 12 Chicago Prevention Research Project, a federally funded 13 collaboration between two of the city's leading research 14 institutions, Howard Brown Health Center and the University 15 of Illinois in Chicago; and 16 WHEREAS, Despite the potential risks of social 17 discrimination and without any promise of personal benefit 18 other than the knowledge that they will make a difference in 19 the fight against HIV and AIDS, 39 Chicagoans have donated 20 their time, effort, and bodies to this effort; therefore, be 21 it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 23 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 24 commend and applaud the 39 Chicagoans who have made this 25 selfless commitment in the fight against HIV and AIDS on this 26 HIV/AIDS Vaccine Awareness Day; and be it further 27 RESOLVED, That we declare May 18, 1998 as HIV/AIDS 28 Vaccine Awareness Day in Illinois; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 30 forwarded to the Howard Brown Health Center and the 31 University of Chicago in Illinois.
