1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate the members of Temple
4 B'nai Abraham of Decatur, Illinois on the occasion of it's
5 seventy-fifth anniversary; and
6 WHEREAS, The Jewish community in Decatur was formed
7 around the turn of the century; the first building was
8 dedicated in 1921; the current temple was dedicated in
9 December of 1953 when the congregation outgrew the previous
10 temple; and
11 WHEREAS, The religious school meets on Sundays, teaching
12 approximately forty children Jewish history, tradition, and
13 philosophy; and
14 WHEREAS, The temple serves sixty-two families in the
15 Decatur area; it is a Reform congregation and a member of the
16 Union of American Hebrew Congregations; the temple has been
17 and continues to be a vital part of the community; therefore,
18 be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21 congratulate Temple B'nai Abraham of Decatur, Illinois on the
22 celebration of their anniversary; our hope is that Temple
23 B'nai Abraham continue to grow in the community, and we wish
24 the congregants continued blessings; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to Temple B'nai Abraham.
