90_HR0491 LRB9012220KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives is proud 3 to honor citizens of the State of Illinois who have reached a 4 milestone in their career and life; and 5 WHEREAS, For thirty-one years Reverend Doctor Henry M. 6 Williamson, Sr. has served as a minister in the Christian 7 Methodist Episcopal Church; he has served as Pastor of the 8 3,000 member-strong Carter Temple CME Church in Chicago, 9 Illinois for the last twelve years; Reverend Williamson has 10 also served churches in Indiana and Florida during his 11 career; and 12 WHEREAS, Reverend Williamson has formulated new programs 13 within the church, with the aim of meeting the needs of the 14 community; the More Like Christ Ministry serves the homeless 15 by providing food and clothing; Project Essence and Save Our 16 Sons are mentoring programs for girls and boys; a Drug 17 Awareness Ministry, a Prison Visitation Ministry, a 18 Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Basket Ministry for the 19 needy, a voter education and registration initiative, and a 20 scholarship ministry; and 21 WHEREAS, Reverend Williamson is the founder and president 22 of One Church One School, a Community Partnership Program 23 that seeks to partner churches and schools across the nation 24 in an alliance that positively impacts the academic 25 achievement, social behavior, and personal development of 26 young people; the program is also an advocate for public 27 education, teaching children to "Value Life and Value 28 Learning"; and 29 WHEREAS, From 1991 to 1993 Reverend Williamson served as 30 the National President for Operation PUSH; Reverend 31 Williamson provided the leadership for restoring the fiscal 32 solvency of the organization; Reverend Williamson is a -2- LRB9012220KBkb 1 current member of the Board of Directors for the Rainbow/PUSH 2 Coalition; Reverend Williamson is the President of the 3 Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Chicago, which 4 leads the recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday 5 celebration each year in Chicago; the group leads a massive 6 assembly of Chicagoans, as well as honoring those individuals 7 who exemplify Dr. King's dreams; and 8 WHEREAS, Reverend Williamson is the husband of Doris 9 Yvonne Keys Williamson; he is the father of Kelli and Henry, 10 Jr., and he is the grandfather of Jonathan; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 that we congratulate Reverend Doctor Henry Williamson on a 14 job well done; we wish him continued success in the ministry, 15 both in his church and his community; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to Reverend Williamson.
