90_HR0495 LRB9012196WHmg 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Human Rights is 3 empowered by the Illinois Human Rights Act to investigate 4 complaints of discrimination made by residents of Illinois; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, In discharging its statutory duties, the 7 Illinois Department of Human Rights annually receives 8 thousands of inquiries; and 9 WHEREAS, Only some of the inquiries made to the Illinois 10 Department of Human Rights result in complaints brought to 11 the Human Rights Commission; and 12 WHEREAS, Documentation and empirical analysis of all 13 inquiries received by the Department could yield data useful 14 to the Department and the General Assembly and could guide 15 policy-making, intergovernmental cooperation, and the 16 assessment of the impact of proposed amendments to the 17 Illinois Human Rights Act; therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 19 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 20 urge the Illinois Department of Human Rights to develop and 21 implement a demonstration project to document and analyze 22 inquiries in each category currently named in the Illinois 23 Human Rights Act and in up to four additional categories not 24 included in the Illinois Human Rights Act, with the number 25 and type of additional categories to be determined by the 26 Department; and be it further 27 RESOLVED, That we urge the Illinois Department of Human 28 Rights to submit an interim report regarding the 29 demonstration project to the General Assembly no later than 30 February 15, 1999 and a final report regarding the 31 demonstration project to the General Assembly no later than -2- LRB9012196WHmg 1 June 30, 1999.
