 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish  to  congratulate the Altamont Lutheran
 4    Interparish School on their 25th anniversary year; and
 5        WHEREAS, In 1861 the congregation of  Bethlehem  Lutheran
 6    Church erected a building which served as both a church and a
 7    school  until  1876,  when  the  present  church building was
 8    built; in 1873 the school enrollment  was  123  students;  by
 9    1880 enrollment was so large that the school was divided into
10    two classrooms with a teacher for each, with the confirmation
11    class  being  taught  in  the  attic; by 1884 one teacher was
12    again teaching the entire school; and
13        WHEREAS,  The  English  language  was  incorporated  into
14    several of the classes, and teaching of the  German  language
15    was  discontinued  in  1954;  as  the  result  of  failing an
16    inspection by the State  Fire  Marshal  in  1958  the  school
17    decided  to  rebuild,  with a new building being dedicated on
18    August 26, 1962; in 1987 the Bethlehem Lutheran School closed
19    and  the   students   began   attending   Altamont   Lutheran
20    Interparish  School  in  August; Bethlehem became a member of
21    ALIS in 1988; therefore, be it
22        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
23    NINETIETH  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
24    congratulate Altamont Lutheran Interparish  School  on  their
25    25th anniversary; and be it further
26        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
27    presented to Altamont Lutheran Interparish School.
