1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Commander James Mazurek, of the West Chicago
3 Police Department, is being honored on June 23, 1998 by the
4 Illinois Crime Prevention Association as "Officer of the
5 Year" at the ICPA's Annual Conference Dinner in Normal,
6 Illinois; and
7 WHEREAS, Commander Mazurek has worked in law enforcement
8 for thirty-one years with the last eight years serving as the
9 Commander in Charge of the Operations Division for the West
10 Chicago Police Department; and
11 WHEREAS, Commander Mazurek has dedicated his career to
12 the implementation of crime prevention programs, giving not
13 only moral support, but actual participation in these crime
14 prevention programs; and
15 WHEREAS, These crime prevention programs have benefited
16 youth and seniors alike, and as a mentor he has saved the
17 future of a number of young people in his intervention; and
18 WHEREAS, Commander Mazurek was instrumental in West
19 Chicago being awarded for the last eight year's by the
20 National Association of Town Watch for their National Night
21 Out Event, with 1997 being recognized as the No. 1 event in
22 West Chicago's population category; and
23 WHEREAS, Commander Mazurek, over the years has portrayed
24 an Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and served as an advisor for an
25 Explorers Post and volunteers his time as a member of the
26 Lions Club, holding many offices and is currently past
27 president of the West Chicago Lions; and
28 WHEREAS, Commander Mazurek will continue to use his time,
29 and that of those who will help him, to accomplish his goal
30 of working towards a better community, of being committed to
31 the children who make the choice of not using drugs and

1 joining a gang, and demonstrate to these children that the
2 policeman is a friend; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 offer our congratulations and appreciation to Commander James
6 Mazurek and his family for his dedication to crime prevention
7 in not only his community, but also the State of Illinois;
8 and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Commander James Mazurek.
