1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Charles Alexander is the principal of Morgan
3 Park High School and has been recognized as one of 22
4 recipients of the "School Leadership Award of Outstanding
5 Principals" who were chosen after an extensive selection
6 process and on the basis of creating a quality academic
7 program, a student-centered learning environment, and strong
8 community and parent partnerships; and
9 WHEREAS, Charles Alexander began his career at Morgan
10 Park High School in 1969 as a history teacher; was appointed
11 to the position of Dean of Students in 1975; and was
12 appointed to the position of Assistant Principal in 1988; and
13 WHEREAS, Charles Alexander recognized in 1995 the need to
14 halt declining writing, reading, and mathematics test scores
15 of Morgan Park High School students and consequently took
16 steps to adapt teaching methods of students; and
17 WHEREAS, Charles Alexander actively led his faculty
18 toward new, dynamic teaching methods for writing and reading,
19 as well as successful mathematics test-taking methods which
20 succeeded in raising the Test of Achievement and Proficiency
21 scores of Morgan Park High School students in 1997 and caused
22 the school to be ranked fifth in the City of Chicago; and
23 WHEREAS, Charles Alexander has encouraged the students,
24 parents, faculty, and staff to strive to do their best in all
25 areas including the Language and International Studies
26 Program, the Production Technology Academy, and the Athletic
27 Program, as well as through the Local School Council, the
28 Parent Teacher Association, and the Principal's Professional
29 Advisory Committee; and
30 WHEREAS, Charles Alexander brings knowledge, creativity,
31 and vision to his role as Principal of Morgan Park High

1 School, provides exceptional leadership for his students,
2 faculty, and staff, and serves as an outstanding role model
3 for our entire State; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 Charles Alexander be congratulated on being recognized as one
7 of the recipients of the "School Leadership Award of
8 Outstanding Principals" and that we take this opportunity to
9 extend to him our best wishes for the future; and be it
10 further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to him as an expression of our admiration and
13 esteem.
