1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate The Little Red
4 Schoolhouse in Joliet, Illinois on the occasion of its
5 thirtieth anniversary; and
6 WHEREAS, In the spring of 1968 "Little Red" opened its
7 doors for the first time; Ona Ashford and her daughter,
8 Jackie Ashford Kempes, a mother herself, welcomed the first
9 children into a nurturing, safe, and home-like environment;
10 many of the first students later enrolled their children in
11 the school; and
12 WHEREAS, The philosophy of the school, "provide the best
13 possible consistent care on an individual basis for very
14 young children who are separated from their home environment
15 for many hours of the day", today remains just as important
16 as it was thirty years ago; and
17 WHEREAS, A special celebration will be held at The Little
18 Red Schoolhouse on May 30, 1998; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21 congratulate The Little Red Schoolhouse on its thirtieth
22 anniversary; may they continue to provide the children of
23 Joliet and the surrounding area with the best child care
24 available; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to Jackie Ashford Kempes, Owner of The Little Red
27 Schoolhouse, Inc.
