1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. John W. Ashenfelter
4 upon his retirement as Superintendent of School District 214
5 in Arlington Heights, Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Ashenfelter earned his Ph.D. in Science
7 Education from the University of Illinois in 1970; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Ashenfelter has spent thirty-seven years in
9 public education; he has served in both secondary and
10 college/university levels; he has spent his last twenty years
11 at District 214; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Ashenfelter has served as a teacher, a
13 coach, a department head, a division head, an assistant
14 principal, a principal for a total of fourteen years in three
15 high schools, an assistant superintendent for instruction, a
16 superintendent in secondary schools, and an instructor and
17 assistant professor at the college/university level; and
18 WHEREAS, In 1993 Dr. Ashenfelter received the Illinois
19 State Board of Education "Award of Merit" in the Those Who
20 Excel Program; in 1979 he was nominated for the National
21 Science Supervisors Association "Nation's Outstanding Science
22 Supervisor Award"; and he was nominated for the Illinois
23 State Committee of the North Central Association "John W.
24 Vaughn Excellence in Education Award" in 1994; therefore, be
25 it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 congratulate Dr. John W. Ashenfelter, along with his wife,
29 Sherry, on his retirement and wish him continued success and
30 happiness in his future; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
