90_HR0614 LRB9012890KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Hattie 4 Newsom, who passed away on August 2, 1998; and 5 WHEREAS, Hattie Newsom was born in Wilmont, Mississippi 6 on May 2, 1902; her parents were James and Mary People; 7 Hattie confessed Jesus Christ at an early age under the 8 leadership of Elder Hampton at Mount Calvary Baptist Church 9 in Wilmont; and 10 WHEREAS, Hattie Newsom married Henry Newsom and five 11 children were born; Hattie moved from Mississippi to Lamont 12 where she became a member of the William Chapel Baptist 13 Church, under the leadership of Reverend Sam Jones; in 1972 14 Hattie moved to her daughter's home in Chicago and joined the 15 Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, under the 16 leadership of Reverend Terry L. Baker; she remained a member 17 there until her passing, under the leadership of Reverend 18 Jerome Williams; and 19 WHEREAS, Hattie Newsom is survived by her son, Henry and 20 his wife, Lucille, her sons George and Wash, and her 21 daughter, Dorthy; her sister, Lula Newsom; her 22 daughter-in-law, Hattie M. Newsom; her two stepdaughters, 23 Elizabeth Stingley and Mavis Wiley; seventy-four 24 grandchildren; ninety-nine great-grandchildren; fifteen 25 great-great-grandchildren; her dear friend, Camelle; and many 26 nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 28 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 29 mourn, along with her family and friends, the death of Hattie 30 Newsom; may they find peace and solace in this time of need; 31 and be it further -2- LRB9012890KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the family of Hattie Newsom.
