90_HR0638 LRB9012997KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to acknowledge milestones within 4 the State; and 5 WHEREAS, Philo Grade School, in Philo, Illinois, is 6 celebrating its centennial this year; and 7 WHEREAS, Philo Grade School is comprised of two 8 buildings, the first housing the fourth grade classrooms, 9 music, special education, and the cafeteria; the second 10 building is home to the fifth and sixth grades, the 11 gymnasium, the band room, and the library; and 12 WHEREAS, Originally Philo High School, the current Grade 13 School was voted on and then built in 1898; Philo High School 14 was a four-year school until the 1917-1918 year, when it 15 converted to a three-year school until 1935-1936; with the 16 building of a new addition in 1937, Philo again became a 17 four-year school and graduated it's first class in 1938; and 18 WHEREAS, 1948-1949 was the last year for Philo High 19 School; Philo, Sidney, Tolono, Pesotum, Sadorus, Colfax, and 20 part of Crittendon Township consolidated their schools to 21 form Unit 7 school district; the school became a grade school 22 and has maintained its status as the centerpiece of the 23 community ever since; therefore, be it 24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 25 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 26 congratulate Philo Grade School on the celebration of one 27 hundred years of serving the educational needs of the 28 children of Philo; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 30 presented to Philo Grade School.
