1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Rosa Lee Burke on September 12, 1998; and
4 WHEREAS, She was born on September 5, 1932, the daughter
5 of Remell and Thomas Burks, Sr.; she attended John M. Smith
6 Elementary School and Joseph Medill High School; and
7 WHEREAS, Rosa Lee Burke was an extraordinary clothing
8 designer and a superb chef; and
9 WHEREAS, On October 5, 1966, Rosa Lee and Garnett Burke
10 were united in marriage; he preceded her in death in August
11 of 1990; and
12 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family
13 and friends, especially her daughter, Valencia Marie; her
14 son, Byron Ellis; her granddaughter, Alexia Simone Winston
15 Burke; her sister, Lucille Barragan; and her brother, Edward
16 Burks; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19 note with sorrow and regret the death of Rosa Lee Burke and
20 extend our most sincere condolences to her family and
21 friends; and be it further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to the family of Rosa Lee Burke.
