90_HR0682 LRB9012829KBkbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Copernicus Foundation honored the memory of 3 its founder and president of 25 years, Mitchell P. 4 Kobelinski, on what would have been his 70th birthday, August 5 7, 1998; and 6 WHEREAS, The historic Gateway Theatre will be renamed as 7 the Mitchell C. Kobelinski Theatre; and 8 WHEREAS, He grew up in Chicago, graduating from Steinmetz 9 High School and Loyola University, where he earned his law 10 degree in 1950; and 11 WHEREAS, In 1951 he joined the Exchange National Bank 12 Trust Department; in 1959 he established Parkway Development 13 Company; he became president of Parkway Bank & Trust in 14 Harwood Heights; he also served for a time as chairman of the 15 board for the First State Bank of Chicago; and 16 WHEREAS, In 1973 President Nixon appointed him as 17 director of the Export Import Bank of the United States, and 18 in 1975 President Ford named him as head of the U.S. Small 19 Business Administration; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Kobelinski was affiliated with the Illinois 21 Division of the Polish American Congress, the Advocates 22 Society, the Chicago-Warsaw Sister Cities Program, the 23 Kosciuszko Foundation, the National Small Business 24 Administration, the Archdiocese of Chicago Finance Counsel, 25 the Advisory Board of the Quigley Seminary, and the Illinois 26 State Board of Elections; and 27 WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Gen, and his 28 children, Gregg and Mark Kobelinski and Marleen Kasbee; 29 therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE -2- LRB9012829KBkbA 1 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 2 join in the appreciation of Mitchell P. Kobelinski and his 3 work to promote the cause of Polish people in America; and be 4 it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to Gen Kobelinski.
