 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS, The  City  of  Peoria  is  celebrating  the  one
 3    hundredth anniversary of the Peoria City Hall; and
 4        WHEREAS,  The  building at 419 Fulton Street has been the
 5    home of Peoria's city government since its opening  in  1899;
 6    it is listed on the National Register as a historic site; and
 7        WHEREAS,  This  was  the  third  City Hall for Peoria; in
 8    1848, City Hall and Fire Central were located in a  two-story
 9    brick building on Adams Street and in 1859, a two-story brick
10    building  was  constructed  behind the first City Hall on the
11    site of a former market; and
12        WHEREAS, The current City Hall was built between 1897 and
13    1899 at a cost of $204,356.51; and
14        WHEREAS, The city officials took pride in the  City  Hall
15    because  of  the open atrium, the classical style bell tower,
16    and the mural on the ceiling of the first floor; and
17        WHEREAS, This beautiful building has  a  remarkable  past
18    and the changes in Peoria have been numerous and varied; and
19        WHEREAS,  The  Peoria  City Hall has played a significant
20    role in the lives of the citizens of Peoria; therefore, be it
21        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
22    NINETIETH  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23    pause in recognition of the one hundredth anniversary of  the
24    Peoria  City Hall and commend the citizens of Peoria on their
25    many contributions to  the  State  of  Illinois;  and  be  it
26    further
27        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
28    presented to the Mayor of Peoria.
