90_HR0707 LRB9013719KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives has 3 learned with much mixed emotion of the decision of one of the 4 most long serving members of the State House Press Corps to 5 retire from this august process on or about December 4, 1998; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, This savvy scribe first graced the journalistic 8 community of this State through the pages of the Southern 9 Illinoisan in Carbondale in 1959; and 10 WHEREAS, After allegedly wearing out his welcome there 11 and in his native Herrin, Illinois, this jaunty journalist 12 joined up with the United States Army; and 13 WHEREAS, After guaranteeing the peacetime security of the 14 free world, this worldly writer chose the metropolis of 15 Springfield, Illinois as the epicenter of his life from a 16 raft of offers and graced the worldwide news gathering forces 17 of United Press International; and 18 WHEREAS, Despite the Garden of Eden-like conditions under 19 the Statehouse dome, this capable chronicler opted for an 20 unexplained stint in South Dakota; and 21 WHEREAS, The allure of Mr. Lincoln's home was just too 22 strong, summoning this reliable reporter back to the Copley 23 News Services in 1965 as a columnist; and 24 WHEREAS, For the last 33 years, the State House Press 25 Room has been a much better place, the coverage of the State 26 government and the Illinois General Assembly more informative 27 and inciteful, and the quality of life in Springfield richer 28 due to Ray Serati's time on the beat; and 29 WHEREAS, Ray Serati has achieved the distinction of 30 becoming the Dean of the State House Press Corps and -2- LRB9013719KBkb 1 President of the Illinois Legislative Correspondents 2 Association, recipient of three Copley New Service "Ring of 3 Truth" awards, including one for a profile on the late 4 Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley; therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 6 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the 7 career, civic, and charitable contributions of Ray Serati be 8 saluted and that he be given the best wishes for much health 9 and happiness in his retirement; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to Ray Serati, along with our sincere regards.
