 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS, The members of this Body are happy to  recognize
 3    individuals  who  have  made outstanding contributions to the
 4    well-being of the citizens of this State; and
 5        WHEREAS, Reverend Jesse  Jackson  is  the  President  and
 6    Founder  of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and has given 27 years
 7    of service to these organizations; and
 8        WHEREAS, He founded People United to Save Humanity (PUSH)
 9    in 1971 in Chicago with the goals of economic empowerment and
10    expanding educational and employment  opportunities  for  the
11    disadvantaged  and  communities  of  color; in 1984, Reverend
12    Jackson founded the National Rainbow  Coalition,  a  national
13    social justice organization devoted to political empowerment,
14    education,  and  changing public policy; in 1996, the Rainbow
15    Coalition and Operation PUSH  merged  into  the  Rainbow/PUSH
16    Coalition  to  continue  both  philosophies  and maximize its
17    resources; and
18        WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson has been  supported  throughout
19    his public and private career by his wife, Jacqueline Lavinia
20    Brown Jackson, and his children, Santita Jackson, Congressman
21    Jesse  Louis  Jackson,  Jr.,  Jonathan  Jackson, Yusef DuBois
22    Jackson, Esq., and Jacqueline Lavinia Jackson, Jr.; and
23        WHEREAS, Reverend Jesse Jackson has  earned  the  respect
24    and admiration of all; therefore, be it
25        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
26    NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that  we
27    congratulate  and  applaud the work of Reverend Jesse Jackson
28    in the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and extend to him the  best  of
29    good luck in the future; and be it further
30        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
31    presented to him as an expression of our esteem.
