Amends the Election Code. Provides that the Attorney
General may conduct investigations, inquiries, and hearings
of violations of the Article concerning campaign
contributions or expenditures and the rules established by
the State Board of Election under that Article.

1 AN ACT to amend the Election Code by changing Section
2 9-18.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
6 Section 9-18 as follows:
7 (10 ILCS 5/9-18) (from Ch. 46, par. 9-18)
8 Sec. 9-18. The Board may hold investigations, inquiries,
9 and hearings concerning any matter covered by this Article,
10 subject to such rules and regulations as the Board may
11 establish. In the process of holding such investigations,
12 inquiries, and hearings, the Board may administer oaths and
13 affirmations, certify to all official acts, issue subpoenas
14 to be authorized by a vote of 5 members of the Board, compel
15 the attendance and testimony of witnesses, and the production
16 of papers, books, accounts, and documents. Hearings conducted
17 by the Board shall be open to the public.
18 The Attorney General may conduct investigations,
19 inquiries, and hearings concerning any violations covered by
20 this Article and the violation of rules established by the
21 Board under this Article. The Attorney General may compel
22 the attendance and testimony of witnesses and the production
23 of papers, books, accounts, and documents for investigations,
24 inquires, and hearings.
