Authorizes the Department of Human Services, as successor agency to the Department of Public Aid for the purpose of administering the Other Social Services Article of the Code, to provide child care services to former AFDC recipients and recipients of State-administered general assistance for a period of time in addition to the required initial 12 months after aid is cancelled because the recipient obtained employment. (Now, extended child care services are provided for a maximum of 12 months.) LRB9002092SMdv LRB9002092SMdv 1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Public Aid Code by changing 2 Section 9-6.3. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by 6 changing Section 9-6.3 as follows: 7 (305 ILCS 5/9-6.3) (from Ch. 23, par. 9-6.3) 8 Sec. 9-6.3. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this 9 Code, the Illinois Department shall provide child care 10 services to former recipients of assistance under Article IV 11 of this Code, and former recipients of assistance under 12 Article VI of this Code in programs administered by the 13 Illinois Department, fora maximum of12 months when 14 assistance is cancelled because the recipient obtained 15 employment. Subject to available appropriations, the Illinois 16 Department may, by rule, provide assistance for more than 12 17 months based upon the former recipient's financial needs. The 18 Department shall establish a preemployment child care 19 application process to facilitate prompt provision of child 20 care services upon employment. The Illinois Department shall 21 specify by rule the types or amounts of such child care, the 22 conditions of eligibility for such services and the system 23 for the preemployment application process, which shall 24 include an outreach component. Eligibility for and the amount 25 of child care provided may vary based upon family size and 26 income, as established by rule. The Illinois Department may 27 contract with other state agencies or child care 28 organizations for the administration of the child care 29 program under this Section. 30 (Source: P.A. 86-909; 86-911; 86-1028.)
