Provides that it is unlawful for a person under the age of 18 to operate or to be a passenger on a bicycle unless he or she wears a bicycle helmet. Provides for a fine of $25 for a violation. LRB9002756DJcd LRB9002756DJcd 1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by adding 2 Section 11-1516. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by 6 adding Section 11-1516 as follows: 7 (625 ILCS 5/11-1516 new) 8 Sec. 11-1516. Bicycle helmet. 9 (a) It is unlawful for a person under the age of 18 to 10 operate or to be a passenger on a bicycle unless at all times 11 when the person is so engaged he or she wears a protective 12 bicycle helmet of good fit fastened securely upon the head 13 with the straps of the helmet. 14 (b) As used in this Section, "protective bicycle helmet" 15 means a piece of headgear that meets or exceeds the impact 16 standards for protective bicycle helmets set by the American 17 National Standards Institute (ANSI) or the Snell Memorial 18 Foundation. 19 (c) A violation of this Section is a petty offense 20 punishable by a fine of $25.
