LRB9002806NTsb LRB9002806NTsb 1 AN ACT concerning school buses, amending named Acts. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is 5 amended by adding Section 49.34 as follows: 6 (20 ILCS 2705/49.34 new) 7 Sec. 49.34. School buses; video surveillance. 8 (a) The Department shall conduct a study to evaluate the 9 effectiveness of video surveillance systems on school buses 10 to assist school bus drivers in managing students and shall 11 submit a report of its findings to the General Assembly by 12 January 1, 1999. 13 (b) The Department shall conduct a study to evaluate the 14 feasibility of using video surveillance to more accurately 15 identify persons who violate Section 11-1414 of the Illinois 16 Vehicle Code and shall submit a report of its findings to the 17 General Assembly by January 1, 1999. 18 (c) This Section is repealed July 1, 2000. 19 Section 10. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by 20 adding Section 12-816 as follows: 21 (625 ILCS 5/12-816 new) 22 Sec. 12-816. Crossing arm. Each school bus shall be 23 equipped with a crossing arm mounted to the school bus that, 24 when extended, will require students who are crossing in 25 front of the bus to walk more than 5 feet from the front of 26 the bus. 27 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect 28 January 1, 1998.
