1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 558
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 558, on page 1, by
3 replacing lines 18 through 23 with the following: "the public
4 is available."; and
5 on page 2, by replacing lines 1 through 5 with the following:
6 "than one and one-half miles from the home of each pupil
7 assigned to such point."; and
8 by replacing lines 9 and 10 with the following: "roads or
9 streets less than 1 1/2 miles"; and
10 by replacing lines 13 through 28 with the following:
11 "In addition to the other requirements of this Section,
12 each school board may provide free transportation for any
13 pupil residing within 1 1/2 miles from the school attended
14 where conditions are such that walking, either to or from the
15 school to which a pupil is assigned for attendance or to or
16 from a pick-up point or bus stop, constitutes a serious
17 hazard to the safety of the pupil due to vehicular traffic or
18 rail crossings. Such transportation shall not be provided if
19 adequate transportation for the public is available."; and

1 on page 3, lines 4 and 8, by replacing "vehicular traffic"
2 each time it appears with "vehicular traffic or rail
3 crossings".
