1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 559
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 559, on page 3,
3 line 23 by changing "in cases involving" to "directly related
4 to"; and
5 by replacing line 34 on page 5 and lines 1 through 3 on
6 page 6 with the following "24A. The hearing officer shall";
7 and
8 in line 6 by replacing "hearing" with "hearing or closure
9 of the record, whichever is later,";and
10 in line 18, by replacing "less" with "more"; and
11 by replacing lines 20 through 22 with the following: "If
12 a hearing"; and
13 in line 23, by replacing "fails" with "fails without good
14 cause"; and
15 in line 24, by replacing "declared closed" with
16 "concluded or the record is closed, whichever is later,"; and
17 in line 32 by replacing "The failure of hearing" with "If
18 the hearing officer fails without good cause to render a
19 decision within 3 months after the hearing is concluded or
20 the record is closed, whichever is later, the hearing officer

1 shall be removed"; and
2 by deleting lines 33 and 34; and
3 on page 7, line 1, by deleting "the hearing officer"; and
4 in line 2, by adding after the added period the
5 following:
6 "The board shall not lose jurisdiction to discharge a teacher
7 if the hearing officer fails to render a decision within the
8 time specified in this Section."; and
9 in line 30 by replacing "law" with "law and shall apply
10 to hearings requested on or after such effective date".
