Amends the Unemployment Insurance Act. Provides that the
term "employment" does not include the taking of depositions
if those services are not merely incidental to other services
performed by that person for the employing unit. Effective
immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Unemployment Insurance Act by adding
2 Section 212.2.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Unemployment Insurance Act is amended by
6 adding Section 212.2 as follows:
7 (820 ILCS 405/212.2 new)
8 Sec. 212.2. Persons taking depositions. The term
9 "employment" does not include performing the services of
10 taking depositions by a person authorized by law or by
11 Supreme Court rule as a person before whom depositions may be
12 taken (sometimes commonly referred to as a "court reporter"
13 even though not falling within the official definition of a
14 "court reporter" under the Court Reporter Act) so long as the
15 taking of depositions is not merely incidental to other
16 services performed by that person for the employing unit.
17 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18 becoming law.
