 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1048
 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 1048  on  page  1,
 3    line  23,  by replacing "complications." with "complications.
 4    Diabetes self-management training shall  include,  but  shall
 5    not  be  limited  to,  medical  nutrition  therapy.   For the
 6    purposes of this Section, "medical nutrition  therapy"  shall
 7    have  the  meaning ascribed to "medical nutrition care" under
 8    the Dietetic and Nutrition Services Practice Act."; and
 9    on page 1, by deleting lines 24 through 26; and
10    on  page  1  by  replacing  lines  29  through  31  with  the
11    following:
12    "professional with expertise in diabetes management."; and
13    on page 2, line 1, by deleting lines 1 through 4; and
14    on page 2, line 6, by changing "including" to "including, but
15    not limited to,"; and
16    on  page  2  by  inserting  immediately  below  line  15  the
17    following:
18        "The following equipment, supplies, and related  services
19    shall be covered:
20             (1)  blood glucose monitors;
21             (2)  blood glucose monitors for the legally blind;

 1             (3)  cartridges for the legally blind;
 2             (4)  glucose  tablets,  glucagon emergency kits, and
 3        injectable glucose;
 4             (5)  injection aids;
 5             (6)  insulin;
 6             (7)  insulin infusion devices;
 7             (8)  insulin pumps and appurtenances;
 8             (9)  oral agents for controlling blood sugar;
 9             (10)  podiatric   appliances   for   prevention   of
10        complications associated with diabetes;
11             (11)  syringes, pen needles,  lancets,  and  lancing
12        devices;
13             (12)  test strips for glucose monitors; and
14             (13)  visual reading and urine testing strips.
15        Covered equipment and supplies must have been approved by
16    the federal Food and Drug Administration."; and
17    on  page  2,  line  23,  by  inserting  "of  Insurance" after
18    "Department"; and
19    on  page  2  by  inserting  immediately  below  line  24  the
20    following:
21        "(f)  Notwithstanding  any  other   provision   of   this
22    Section, no person licensed in this State under any other Act
23    shall  be  prohibited  or  restricted  from  engaging  in the
24    practice for which they are licensed.".
