 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1339
 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 1339 by  replacing
 3    the title with the following:
 4        "AN  ACT to amend the Children and Family Services Act by
 5    changing Section 8."; and
 6    by replacing everything after the enacting  clause  with  the
 7    following:
 8        "Section  5.  The  Children  and  Family  Services Act is
 9    amended by changing Section 8 as follows:
10        (20 ILCS 505/8) (from Ch. 23, par. 5008)
11        Sec. 8. Scholarships and  fee  waivers.   Each  year  the
12    Department  may select from among the children under care, or
13    children formerly under care who have been adopted or are  in
14    the  subsidized  guardianship  program,  a  maximum  of 48 24
15    students, (at least 4 of whom shall be children of veterans),
16    who have completed 4 years in an accredited high school;  the
17    children selected who shall be eligible for scholarships  and
18    fee waivers which will entitle them to 4 consecutive years of
19    community   college,   university,   or   college  education.
20    Selection shall be made on the basis  of  scholastic  record,
21    aptitude,  and  general  interest  in  higher  education.  In

 1    accordance  with  this  Act,  tuition  scholarships  and  fee
 2    waivers shall be available to such students at any university
 3    or  college  maintained  by  the  State  of  Illinois.    The
 4    Department  shall  provide  maintenance  and school expenses,
 5    except  tuition  and  fees,  during  the  academic  years  to
 6    supplement the students' earnings or other resources so  long
 7    as  they  consistently  maintain scholastic records which are
 8    acceptable to their schools and to the Department.   Students
 9    may  attend  other colleges and universities, if scholarships
10    are  awarded  them,  and  receive  the  same   benefits   for
11    maintenance  and  other  expenses as those students attending
12    any Illinois State community college, university, or  college
13    under this Section.
