          Amends the Counties Code.  Provides that, in addition  to
      stated hours, the recorder may keep his or her office open at
      any  other  hours  on  working  days, Saturdays, Sundays, and
      holidays that the recorder determines.

 1        AN ACT to amend the Counties  Code  by  changing  Section
 2    3-5016.
 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section 5.  The Counties  Code  is  amended  by  changing
 6    Section 3-5016 as follows:
 7        (55 ILCS 5/3-5016) (from Ch. 34, par. 3-5016)
 8        Sec.  3-5016.   Quarters;  office  hours.  Every Recorder
 9    shall keep his office at the courthouse  of  the  county  for
10    which  he  is recorder, or in counties of the second or third
11    class in some other suitable building provided at the  county
12    seat  by  the  county for which he is recorder and shall keep
13    his office open except as hereinafter provided and attend  to
14    the  duties  thereof  in  counties  of  the  first and second
15    classes from 8 o'clock A.M. to 5 o'clock P.M. of each working
16    day, except Saturday, and in counties of the third class from
17    9 o'clock A.M. to 5 o'clock P.M. of each working day,  except
18    Saturday,  and except in each county of all classes such days
19    as under any law are or may be legal holidays in any part  of
20    the   county,   as   regards   the  presenting  for  payment,
21    acceptance, maturity, protesting, or  giving  notice  of  the
22    dishonor of bills of exchange, bank checks, promissory notes,
23    or  other  negotiable  or  commercial  paper  or instruments:
24    Provided, however, that the hours of opening and  closing  of
25    the office of the Recorder may be changed and otherwise fixed
26    and  determined  by  the county board of any county. Any such
27    action taken by the county board shall be by  an  appropriate
28    resolution passed at a regular meeting. The recorder may keep
29    his  or  her  office  open  during any other hours on working
30    days, Saturdays, Sundays,  and  holidays  that  the  recorder
31    determines.    The   office  of  the  recorder  shall  accept

 1    instruments for recordation at all  times  during  which  the
 2    office is open.
