 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1561
 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 1561  on  page  1,
 3    line 6, by replacing "and" with "27-22, and"; and
 4    on page 26, by inserting below line 27 the following:
 5        "(105 ILCS 5/27-22) (from Ch. 122, par. 27-22)
 6        Sec.   27-22.    Required  high  school  courses.   As  a
 7    prerequisite to receiving a high school diploma,  each  pupil
 8    entering  the 9th grade in 1998-1999 1984-1985 and subsequent
 9    years  must,  in  addition  to  other  course   requirements,
10    successfully complete the following courses:
11             1.  four three years of language arts;
12             2.  three two years of mathematics, one of which may
13        be related to computer technology;
14             3.  two years one year of science;
15             4.  three  two  years of social studies, of which at
16        least one year must be history of the United States or  a
17        combination  of history of the United States and American
18        government; and
19             5.  One year chosen from (A)  music,  (B)  art,  (C)
20        foreign  language,  which  shall  be  deemed  to  include
21        American Sign Language or (D) vocational education.
22        This amendatory Act of 1998 1983 does not apply to pupils

 1    entering the 9th grade in the 1997-1998 1983-1984 school year
 2    and prior school years or to students with disabilities whose
 3    course  of study is determined by an individualized education
 4    program.
 5        The  provisions  of  this  Section  are  subject  to  the
 6    provisions of Section 27-22.05.
