90_SB1867 35 ILCS 200/2-60 Amends the Property Tax Code to make a technical change. SRS90S0084PMch SRS90S0084PMch 1 AN ACT to amend the Property Tax Code by changing Section 2 2-60. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by changing 6 Section 2-60 as follows: 7 (35 ILCS 200/2-60) 8 Sec. 2-60. Vacancies. 9 (a) When the voters in any township or multi-township 10 assessment district failsto elect an assessor or when an 11 assessor's office becomes vacant for any reason specified in 12 Section 25-2 of the Election Code, the township or 13 multi-township board of trustees shall fill the vacancy in 14 townships or multi-township assessment districts by 15 appointing a person qualified as required under Section 2-45 16 or as revised by the Department under Section 2-52. A person 17 appointed to fill a vacancy under this Section must be a 18 member of the same political party as the person vacating the 19 office if the person vacating the office was a member of an 20 established political party, as defined in Section 10-2 of 21 the Election Code, that is still in existence at the time the 22 appointment is made. The appointee shall establish his or 23 her political party affiliation by his or her record of 24 voting in party primary elections or by holding or having 25 held an office in a political party organization before the 26 appointment. 27 (b) In the alternative, a township or multi-township 28 assessment district shall contract with a person qualified as 29 required under Section 2-45 or as revised by the Department 30 under Section 2-52 to do the assessing at a cost no greater 31 than the maximum salary authorized for that township or -2- SRS90S0084PMch 1 multi-township assessment district under Section 2-70. 2 (Source: P.A. 88-455; 89-342, eff. 1-1-96; 89-441, eff. 3 6-1-96.)
