90_SR0058 LRB9005637KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 convey their sympathy to the family of Ann Durbin, who passed 4 away on Wednesday April 23, 1997; and 5 WHEREAS, Ann Durbin was born Ona Kutkaitae (Kutkin) in 6 Jurbarkas, Lithuania; on July 26, 1909 Mrs. Durbin emigrated 7 to the United States, settling in East St. Louis in 1911; 8 Mrs. Durbin remained in East St. Louis until 1962, when she 9 moved to Fairview Heights, Illinois; in 1988 Mrs. Durbin 10 moved to Kensington, Maryland and remained there until her 11 death; and 12 WHEREAS, Ann Durbin became a citizen of the United States 13 on November 15, 1935; and 14 WHEREAS, Ann Durbin was a clerk for the New York Central 15 and the Penn Central railroads; Mrs. Durbin was a former 16 president of the St. Clair Women's Club; and 17 WHEREAS, Mrs. Durbin is survived by her son United States 18 Senator from Illinois Richard Durbin, her son William P. 19 Durbin, and her son Robert E. Durbin; she was also 20 grandmother to fifteen grandchildren and great grandmother to 21 fourteen great grandchildren; and 22 WHEREAS, Ann Durbin is remembered by her son, Senator 23 Dick Durbin, who said, "She came to America as a little girl, 24 overcame many obstacles in her life and left the best legacy: 25 a strong family"; therefore, be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 27 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her 28 family and friends, the death of Ann Durbin of Kensington, 29 Maryland, and extend our deepest sympathy to our United 30 States Senator from Illinois, Richard Durbin, at this time of 31 loss; and be it further -2- LRB9005637KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the family of Ann Durbin.
