90_SR0117 LRB9007376KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to send 3 their condolences to the family of Donald Thorsen, who passed 4 away on September 9, 1997; and 5 WHEREAS, Donald Thorsen was born in Sandwich, Illinois on 6 February 23, 1923, the son of Thor and Hilda Halversen 7 Thorsen; on August 23, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri, Donald 8 Thorsen took Harriet Cameron to be his bride; and 9 WHEREAS, Donald Thorsen was a graduate of Galesburg High 10 School; while living in Galesburg he worked as an engineer 11 for Galesburg State Hospital; after moving to Jacksonville in 12 1963, Mr. Thorsen took a position as assistant chief engineer 13 at Jacksonville State Hospital; Mr. Thorsen went on to become 14 chief engineer at the Illinois School for the Visually 15 Impaired, where he retired in 1984; and 16 WHEREAS, Donald Thorsen served in the United States Navy 17 during World War II, in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. 18 Sagittarius; from 1987 to 1992 he was elected Morgan County 19 Democratic Chairman; he served as the first president of the 20 Jacksonville State Employee Credit Union, and later served on 21 the board; and 22 WHEREAS, Donald Thorsen is survived by his loving wife 23 Harriet; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Thor and his wife 24 Marilyn, and Todd and his wife Nancy; his three daughters, 25 Kay Hillman, Mrs. Tom (Carol) Davis, and Mrs. Tom (Jane) 26 Breen; and his twelve grandchildren and two 27 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 29 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his loved 30 ones, the death of Donald Thorsen of Jacksonville, Illinois; 31 and be it further -2- LRB9007376KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the family of Donald Thorsen.
