90_SR0129 SRS90SR0017KSsa 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, school districts are required under Sections 3 10-21.9 and 34-18.5 of the School Code to initiate criminal 4 background investigations of new employees; and 5 WHEREAS, those criminal background checks are conducted 6 by the Department of State Police to ascertain if the 7 employee has been convicted of any of the criminal or drug 8 offenses enumerated in Section 10-21.9 and 34-18.5; and 9 WHEREAS, those criminal background checks may be based on 10 either the employee's name and social security number or the 11 employee's fingerprints; and 12 WHEREAS, the procedures, costs and results of the 13 criminal background checks can vary based on whether the 14 employee's name and social security number or the employee's 15 fingerprints are used; therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 17 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the State Board of Education, 18 in consultation with the Department of State Police, shall 19 make available to school districts information on the 20 differences between a criminal background check based on an 21 employee's name and social security number and a criminal 22 background check based on an employee's fingerprints, 23 including, but not limited to, the procedures and process 24 used for each type of check, the costs, and the thoroughness 25 of the results; and be it further 26 RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be 27 presented to the State Board of Education and the Department 28 of State Police.
