90_SR0132 LRB9007867KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to send 3 their sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Annie Loretta 4 Harris; and 5 WHEREAS, Annie Harris was born in South Bend, Indiana, on 6 August 23, 1922; her parents were Joseph D.D. Weatherspoon 7 and Betty L. Branham Weatherspoon; Annie was educated in the 8 South Bend, Indiana school district; and 9 WHEREAS, Annie Harris was married to James L. Harris, 10 Sr., on March 27, 1948 in South Bend, Indiana; together Annie 11 and James had two children, Judith Ann and James L., Jr.; and 12 WHEREAS, At an early age, Annie Harris accepted Jesus 13 Christ as her Savior; in 1936 she was baptized at the Pilgrim 14 Baptist Church, where she remained as a member; she was 15 active in the Annie Hutchinson Missionary Society and the 16 Mamie Bingham Circle; and 17 WHEREAS, For thirty-eight years Annie worked at the St. 18 Joseph's Medical Center, retiring in 1988; she was a faithful 19 member of the Odessa Chapter No. 28, Order of the Eastern 20 Star, P.H.A., since 1947; Annie was a Past Worthy Matron 21 twice, a Past Secretary, and District Deputy Grand Matron of 22 District No. 8; Annie was also a Past Grand Worthy Matron of 23 Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince 24 Hall Affiliation, Jurisdiction of Indiana; Annie was serving 25 the office as Grand Historian for 1997 and 1998; Annie was 26 affiliated with the Edna Tidwell Council of Youth Fraternity; 27 and 28 WHEREAS, Annie was affiliated with and served as Past 29 Loyal Lady Ruler and Past Secretary of Wabash Assembly No. 30 68, Order of the Golden Circle; Annie was a member of the 31 Indiana Grand State Assembly of the Golden Circle and served -2- LRB9007867KBkb 1 as Past Grand Priestess; Annie served as Noble Governor of 2 the Silver Star Household of Ruth No. 5577, and was a member 3 of the Community Birthday Club; and 4 WHEREAS, Annie Harris is survived by her daughter, Judith 5 Ann Johnson; her son, James L. Harris, Jr.; her two sisters, 6 Gladys E. Bigham and Ollie Mae Grayson; her brother, Lee 7 Moorman Weatherspoon; her five grandchildren, Kimberly M. 8 Johnson, Gregory E. Johnson, Jr., and Christopher S. Johnson, 9 Robert N.. Harris and William J. Harris; several cousins, 10 nieces, nephews, and friends; she will also be remembered by 11 her devoted sister-in-law, Cornelious M. Shambry, and her 12 dedicated friend, Lillian I. Blake; therefore, be it 13 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 14 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her many 15 friends and family members, the death of Mrs. Annie Harris of 16 South Bend, Indiana; may they find comfort in this time of 17 need; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 19 presented to the family of Annie Harris.
