90_SR0142 LRB9008470KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 extend their sincere sympathies to the family of David "Big 4 Jack" Jackson, who passed away on December 31, 1997; and 5 WHEREAS, The second of five children born to Isaac and 6 Clara Jackson, David was born on July 22, 1918 in Bossier 7 Parrish, Louisiana; his family moved to Chicago while David 8 was still young, settling in the Morgan Park area; David 9 attended John D. Shoop Elementary School and Morgan Park High 10 School; David attended Wilson Junior College where he played 11 football; David received early religious training at Mount 12 Calvary Baptist Church; and 13 WHEREAS, David Jackson was wed to Wardell Appling on 14 August 1, 1942; together they raised seven children; David 15 Jackson worked as a welding foreman at Tuskegee Air Force 16 Base during World War II; David was later inducted into the 17 United States Navy, where he was honorably discharged in 18 1946; and 19 WHEREAS, David Jackson retired from the Chicago Police 20 Department after thirty years; David received many honorable 21 mentions while serving with the Chicago Police; after his 22 retirement, David enrolled at Olive Harvey College at the age 23 of sixty-three; his focus of study was Physics and Calculus, 24 and he took a variety of courses with an emphasis in the two 25 areas; David spent many hours at study, maintaining an A and 26 B average; and 27 WHEREAS, David Jackson is survived by his loving wife, 28 Wardell; his children, Karol, Don, Errol (Valarie), Dexter, 29 and Marilyn; his thirteen grandchildren; his fourteen 30 great-grandchildren; his brother, Isaac Jackson and his wife, 31 Myrna; his sister-in-law, Ella Miller; his brother-in-law, 32 Earnest Appling and his wife, Francis;and a host of nieces -2- LRB9008470KBkb 1 and nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 3 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his 4 family and friends, the death of David Jackson; and be it 5 further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of David Jackson.
