90_SR0228 LRB9012591CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Mr. Alvin L. Parks, Sr. on June 10, 1998; and 4 WHEREAS, He was born on July 5, 1930, the son of Dallas 5 Parks, Sr. and Sadie Nicholson Parks; he was educated at 6 Dunbar Elementary School, Lincoln Senior High School, and the 7 University of Arkansas; and 8 WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Army, Mr, Parks 9 chose a career as an educator in East Saint Louis District 10 #189; he also coached at Hughes-Quinn Junior High School; and 11 WHEREAS, He was affiliated with the Lincoln Senior High 12 Class of 1948, the University of Arkansas Alumni Association, 13 Shuqualakian Club, Pro-8 Civic/Social Club, and the Health 14 and Physical Education Association, where he received the 15 1979 Championship Coach of the Year Award; he also served for 16 12 years as Precinct Committeeman and as Alderman for the 17 City of Centreville and established the first Khoury League 18 Team for Blacks in Centreville; and 19 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 20 and friends, especially his wife, Lillian; his children, 21 Alvin and Lauren; his daughter-in-law, Joe Anne; his 22 son-in-law, Rocco Goins; his grandchildren, Annalise Parks 23 and Lillian Parks-Goins; his sister, Yvonne Hammonds; his 24 brothers, James, Dallas, and Bernard; his brother-in-law, Dr. 25 Cleveland Hammonds; his sisters-in-law, Marjorie Parks, Lee 26 Annie Bonner, Bestine Tourijigian, Estine Weston, and Vivian 27 Adams; his aunts, Eva Parks, Vandy Bee Mays, and Mary 28 Gregory; and his uncles, Robert Nicholson, John Nicholson, 29 and Nathaniel Triplett; therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 31 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret -2- LRB9012591CBcb 1 the death of Alvin L. Parks and extend our sincere 2 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 4 presented to his widow, Mrs. Lillian A. Parks.
