90_SR0260 LRB9013621RCpc 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Willie Enoch has been convicted of murder and is 3 scheduled to be executed on November 18, 1998; and 4 WHEREAS, Important questions have arisen concerning the 5 evidence in the case; and 6 WHEREAS, Individuals who have been on death row for years 7 have been released from prison after evidence has shown that 8 they are innocent of the crimes for which they have been 9 convicted; and 10 WHEREAS, Section 12 of Article V of the Illinois 11 Constitution authorizes the Governor the power to grant 12 reprieves for State criminal offenses; and 13 WHEREAS, The Governor's action in this matter is the last 14 avenue of preventing the execution of Willie Enoch; 15 therefore, be it 16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 17 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge Governor Jim Edgar to 18 grant a temporary reprieve from execution for Willie Enoch; 19 and be it further 20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to 21 the Honorable Jim Edgar, Governor of Illinois.
