90_SR0268 LRB9013574CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate are saddened to learn 3 of the death of Mary Louise Plants of Aurora, who passed away 4 on Saturday, September 26, 1998, in the same room in which 5 she was born; and 6 WHEREAS, She was born in Aurora on March 25, 1916; she 7 was a graduate of Madonna High School in 1934; she was 8 employed part-time as a substitute teacher at Center School 9 and Beaupre School in Aurora; and 10 WHEREAS, She went on to become the first musical director 11 at Radio Station WMRO in Aurora in 1938, having her own radio 12 program and accompanying several singers at the time, later 13 making the transition from the piano to the Hammond organ; 14 she continued her career as a professional organist from 1944 15 to 1960 at various locations, entertaining people with her 16 own unique and easy-to-listen-to style, being compared to 17 Ethel Smith and playing with another well-known organist, Ken 18 Griffen; and 19 WHEREAS, She was a member of the American Federation of 20 Musicians, Hammond, Indiana local; and 21 WHEREAS, She had one son, Ronald Newman, in 1948, who now 22 serves as News Director of WBIG Radio in Aurora and is the 23 organist at St. Mary's Church and the Arcada Theater in St. 24 Charles on Saturday evenings; and 25 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family 26 and friends, especially her husband, Frank Plants; her son, 27 Ron Newman; her former husband, Roy Newman; and her sisters, 28 Elizabeth Miller and Bernadette Biever; therefore, be it 29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 30 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret 31 the death of Mary Louise Plants and extend our sincere -2- LRB9013574CBcb 1 condolences to her family and friends; and be it further 2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 3 presented to her husband, Frank, and her son, Ron.
