90_SR0279 SDS/90SR0013/amm 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this august body are proud and 3 honored to recognize fellow members as they leave this 4 chamber; and 5 WHEREAS, Senator Bruce A. Farley of Chicago will end his 6 distinguished twenty-six year career in the Illinois 7 Legislature at the end of the 90th General Assembly; and 8 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley was born on April 12, 1943 in 9 Los Angeles, California to Robert and Myrtle Farley; and 10 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley was educated at St. Alphonsus 11 Grammar School and DePaul Academy and received his Bachelor 12 of Arts degree from Loyola University; and 13 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley served his country completing a 14 six-year enlistment with the United States Air Force 15 Reserves, 928th Tactical Air Lift Group; and 16 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley is married to the former Karen 17 Gries, a loving union which has produced two children: Danny 18 and Jeanne; and 19 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley was first elected to the 20 Illinois House of Representatives at the age of twenty-nine, 21 and served as a member from 1973 until 1993, distinguishing 22 himself as the longtime Chairman of House of Labor and 23 Commerce Committee where he negotiated for fair wages and 24 benefits and increased safety for all Illinois workers, as a 25 member of the Transportation and Motor Vehicles Committee, 26 the Intergovernmental Cooperation Commission and as Co-chair 27 of the Legislative Space Needs Commission; and 28 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley was elected to the Illinois 29 Senate in 1992 and was re-elected in 1994; and 30 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley is the Spokesman for the Senate -2- SDS/90SR0013/amm 1 Environment and Energy Committee and Co-chairs the 2 Legislative Space Needs Commission; and 3 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley has been a tireless advocate for 4 working men and women, consumers, young people, human rights, 5 crime victims and senior citizens; and 6 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley was instrumental in the 7 establishment of the Citizens Utility Board, which won 8 millions of dollars in utility rate reductions for Chicago 9 residents, was one of the original sponsors of the Family 10 Leave Bill and was a key negotiator and sponsor of the 11 utility deregulation law; and 12 WHEREAS, Because of his outstanding legislative 13 achievements, Bruce A. Farley has been recognized by such 14 organizations as the Illinois AFL-CIO, the Illinois 15 Association of Park Districts, Chicago Firefighters Local 2, 16 the Chicago Teachers Union, the Fraternal Order of Police and 17 the Illinois Federation of Human Rights as well as numerous 18 other organizations; and 19 WHEREAS, Bruce A. Farley has also been active in civic 20 and community affairs on the North Side of Chicago and the 21 surrounding area, serving as member of St. Benedict's Parish, 22 as a member of the C.L. McCormick Boys Club Board of 23 Directors, the Ravenswood Community Council and the North 24 Side Neighbors; therefore be it 25 RESOLVED, That we congratulate Bruce A. Farley on his 26 outstanding service to the citizens of the State of Illinois, 27 and extend our gratitude for having him as a member of this 28 august body; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 30 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That a suitable copy of this 31 preamble and resolution be presented to Bruce A. Farley, -3- SDS/90SR0013/amm 1 along with our very best wishes to Bruce and the entire 2 Farley family for success and happiness in all of their 3 future endeavors.
