90_SR0280 LRB9013686KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The people of the State of Illinois have 3 bestowed a great responsibility upon the Senate to meet the 4 challenges that face our State and the Senate is honored to 5 have members who embrace those duties with eagerness and 6 skill; and 7 WHEREAS, Jesus Garcia was elected to the First Senate 8 District for the 88th General Assembly and has served this 9 body with distinction in the 89th and the 90th General 10 Assemblies and is the first member of Mexican-American 11 heritage to be elected to the Senate; and 12 WHEREAS, Senator Garcia serves as the Minority Spokesman 13 for the Committee on Commerce and Industry where he is an 14 effective advocate for the rights of working men and women 15 and is a member of the Committee on Public Health and Welfare 16 and has previously served on the Committee on State 17 Government Organization and Executive Appointments and the 18 Committee on Financial Institutions; and 19 WHEREAS, Senator Garcia is respected for his work on 20 behalf of his constituents and all of the people of Illinois 21 by enacting legislation that assists bilingual students, 22 protects the rights of veterans, provides tougher sentencing 23 for criminal gunrunning, ensures the safer transport of donor 24 organs and numerous other laws that provide for the well 25 being of the people of Illinois; and 26 WHEREAS, Upon the adjournment of the 90th General 27 Assembly Senator Garcia will retire from the Senate but his 28 achievements and energy will long be remembered by this body; 29 therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 31 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we hereby offer our sincerest -2- LRB9013686KBkb 1 appreciation to Senator Jesus Garcia for his friendship and 2 hard work in behalf of the people of the State of Illinois 3 and wish him well in all of his future endeavors; and be it 4 further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this preamble and 6 resolution be presented to Senator Jesus Garcia in 7 appreciation for his membership in the Illinois State Senate.
