90_SR0283 LRB9013765KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of William Thomas Hawks of Elburn, 4 Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, William Hawks was born on the family farm near 6 Batavia on June 10, 1918; his parents were Lisle and Margaret 7 Walsh Hawks; Mr. Hawks was educated in country schools, and 8 attended Marmion Military Academy; and 9 WHEREAS, After his father suffered a farming accident, 10 Mr. Hawks took over the family farming operations from his 11 father; for years he enjoyed the dairy business, raising soy 12 beans and corn, and the basics of farm living; in his later 13 years he was joined by his son on the farm, where they worked 14 together milking, planting, and harvesting the crops; he also 15 enjoyed driving the family trucks to the river at Morris, 16 Illinois; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Hawks married Catherine Anna Holter on June 18 12, 1937; the couple had been childhood sweethearts and were 19 always a part of each other's lives; and 20 WHEREAS, As a young man, William Hawks formed a band, 21 where he played both the piano and the drums; in their later 22 years, William and Catherine traveled to places such as New 23 Zealand, Hawaii, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Disney World, 24 and Las Vegas; they enjoyed being with friends and playing 25 Canasta; and 26 WHEREAS, William Hawks was a member of Holy Cross 27 Catholic Church, the site of his wedding; the couple were 28 married by Monsignor Donovan when he first came to Batavia as 29 a priest; they later moved to Elburn and became members of 30 St. Gall Church; Mr. Hawks was an active member of the 31 Knights of Columbus in Batavia; and -2- LRB9013765KBkb 1 WHEREAS, William Hawks is survived by his wife, 2 Catherine; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Arlene 3 Hawks and their son, Victor; his daughter, Rita Marmo and her 4 children, Janet Marmo, Joel Marmo, and Jeffrey Marmo, his 5 wife, Jill, and William's first great-grandson, Jacob; his 6 son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Andrea Hawks and their 7 sons, Clinton and Jason; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary 8 and Richard Wheeler and their family, Charity, Charles, and 9 Cliff Assell, and Catherine Wheeler; his sister, Dorothy 10 Koops; and many friends; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 12 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his 13 family and friends, the death of William Hawks; may they find 14 peace in this time of need; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to the family of William Hawks.
