1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sympathy to the family and friends of U.S.
4 Marine Captain Barry Fleming, who passed away September 16,
5 1998; and
6 WHEREAS, Captain Fleming was a 1984 graduate of St.
7 Norbert School and a 1988 graduate of Glenbrook North High
8 School, where he was a varsity football player; he was a 1994
9 graduate of Marquette University, where he attended Marine
10 officer candidate school; and
11 WHEREAS, Captain Fleming was commissioned a Marine
12 officer in 1994, and went on active duty three months later;
13 he was promoted to the rank of Captain in August of 1998; and
14 WHEREAS, Captain Fleming and his crew had been practicing
15 helicopter takeoffs and landings from the deck of the USS
16 Rushmore, an aircraft carrier stationed in California; the
17 USS Rushmore was with the Marine Light Attack Helicopter
18 Squadron 267, based at Camp Pendleton, flying UH-1 Huey
19 helicopters at the time of the unfortunate accident that
20 killed Captain Fleming and his crew; and
21 WHEREAS, Captain Barry Fleming is survived by his
22 parents, Barry Fleming Sr., and Mary Fleming; his brothers,
23 Tom and Patrick, and his sister, Peggy Keller; therefore, be
24 it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
26 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his
27 family and friends, the death of Captain Barry Fleming of
28 Northbrook, Illinois; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to the family of U.S. Marine Captain Barry Fleming.
