HOLBROOK-NOVAK. 730 ILCS 5/3-6-3 from Ch. 38, par. 1003-6-3 730 ILCS 5/5-4-1 from Ch. 38, par. 1005-4-1 Amends the Unified Code of Corrections to provide that a prisoner serving a term of imprisonment of one or more years may receive no more than 54 days of good conduct credit for each year of his or her term of imprisonment. Authorizes early release credit for participation in substance abuse programs, corrections industry assignments, and educational programs. Provides for vesting of early release credit at the end of the year in which it is earned. Deletes certain current provisions concerning early release credit. Present law provides for one day of good conduct credit for each day of service in prison, except when a sentence of natural life has been imposed or a sentence for first degree murder in which case no good conduct credit is awarded, and except for various offenses in which good conduct credit may not exceed 4.5 days for each month of the prisoner's sentence of imprisonment.
