CROTTY. 720 ILCS 5/9-1 from Ch. 38, par. 9-1 730 ILCS 5/5-8-1 from Ch. 38, par. 1005-8-1 Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that the killing of an individual as the result of the intentional discharge of a machine gun or of a firearm that was equipped with a silencing device or of the intentional explosion of a bomb, grenade, bottle, or other container containing an explosive substance of over one-quarter ounce are aggravating factors for which the death penalty may be imposed for first degree murder. Amends the Unified Code of Corrections to make changes in the circumstances under which the imposition of a term of natural life imprisonment for first degree murder is mandatory.
