1 AN ACT concerning smoke detectors, amending named Acts.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding
5 Section 5-1125 as follows:
6 (55 ILCS 5/5-1125 new)
7 Sec. 5-1125. Smoke Detector Act; inspections. Each
8 county must conduct at least one yearly inspection of each
9 structure located in the county, but outside the boundaries
10 of a municipality, that contains more than one dwelling unit
11 to ensure that the structure meets the requirements of the
12 Smoke Detector Act.
13 Section 10. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
14 adding Section 11-8-7 as follows:
15 (65 ILCS 5/11-8-7 new)
16 Sec. 11-8-7. Smoke Detector Act; inspections. Each
17 municipality must conduct at least one yearly inspection of
18 each structure located in the municipality that contains more
19 than one dwelling unit to ensure that the structure meets the
20 requirements of the Smoke Detector Act.
21 Section 15. The Smoke Detector Act is amended by adding
22 Section 3.5 as follows:
23 (425 ILCS 60/3.5 new)
24 Sec. 3.5. Inspection by county and municipality. As
25 provided in Section 5-1125 of the Counties Code and Section
26 11-8-7 of the Illinois Municipal Code, every county and
27 municipality must conduct at least one yearly inspection of

1 each structure located in the county or municipality, as the
2 case may be, that contains more than one dwelling unit to
3 ensure that the structure meets the requirements of this Act.
