91_HB1332 LRB9103275PTpk 1 AN ACT concerning tourism. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Illinois Promotion Act is amended by 5 changing Section 4 as follows: 6 (20 ILCS 665/4) (from Ch. 127, par. 200-24) 7 Sec. 4. Powers. The Department shall have the following 8 powers: 9 (a) To formulate a program for the promotion of tourism 10 and the film industry in the State of Illinois, including the 11 promotion of our State Parks, fishing and hunting areas, 12 historical shrines, vacation regions and areas of historic or 13 scenic interest.;14 (b) To cooperate with civic groups and local, State and 15 federal departments and agencies, and agencies and 16 departments of other states in encouraging educational 17 tourism and developing programs therefor.;18 (c) To publish tourist promotional material such as 19 brochures and booklets.;20 (d) To promote tourism in Illinois by articles and 21 advertisements in magazines, newspapers and travel 22 publications and by establishing promotional exhibitions at 23 fairs, travel shows, and similar exhibitions.;24 (e) To establish and maintain travel offices at major 25 points of entry to the State.;26 (f) To recommend legislation relating to the 27 encouragement of tourism in Illinois.;28 (g) To assist municipalities or local promotion groups in 29 developing new tourist attractions including but not limited 30 to feasibility studies and analyses, research and 31 development, and management and marketing planning for such -2- LRB9103275PTpk 1 new tourist attractions. 2 (h) To do such other acts as shall, in the judgment of 3 the Department, be necessary and proper in fostering and 4 promoting tourism in the State of Illinois. 5 (i) To implement a program of matching grants to 6 counties, municipalities or local promotion groups and loans 7 to for-profit businesses for the development or improvement 8 of tourism attractions in Illinois under the terms and 9 conditions provided in this Act. 10 (j) To expend funds from the International and 11 Promotional Fund, subject to appropriation, on any activity 12 authorized under this Act. 13 (Source: P.A. 90-26, eff. 7-1-97; revised 10-31-98.)
