1 AN ACT to amend the Election Code by changing Section
2 12-1.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
6 Section 12-1 as follows:
7 (10 ILCS 5/12-1) (from Ch. 46, par. 12-1)
8 Sec. 12-1. Notice of election. At least 60 days prior
9 to each general and consolidated election, the election
10 authority shall provide public notice, calculated to reach
11 elderly and handicapped voters, of the availability of
12 registration and voting aids under the Federal Voting
13 Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act, of the
14 availability of assistance in marking the ballot, and
15 procedures for voting by absentee ballot.
16 At least 30 days before any general election, and at
17 least 20 days before any special congressional election, the
18 county clerk shall publish a notice of the election in 2 or
19 more newspapers published in the county, city, village,
20 incorporated town or town, as the case may be, or if there is
21 no such newspaper, then in any 2 or more newspapers published
22 in the county and having a general circulation throughout the
23 community. The notice may be substantially as follows:
24 Notice is hereby given that on (give date), at (give the
25 place of holding the election and the name of the precinct or
26 district) in the county of (name county), an election will be
27 held for (give the title of the several offices to be
28 filled), which election will be open at 6:00 a.m. and
29 continued open until 7:00 p.m. of that day.
30 Dated at .... on (insert date). this .... day of ....,
