91_HB2054 LRB9103705MWgc 1 AN ACT to amend the Election Code by changing Section 2 6-1. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing 6 Section 6-1 as follows: 7 (10 ILCS 5/6-1) (from Ch. 46, par. 6-1) 8 Sec. 6-1. Continuation of prior law; City Election Law. 9 The provisions of this Article 6 (and of Articles 14 and 18 10 hereof) so far as they are the same as those of the 11 provisions of "An Act regulating the holding of elections and 12 declaring the result thereof in cities, villages and 13 incorporated towns in this state", approved June 19, 1885, as 14 amended, (hereinafter sometimes referred to in this Article 15 as the Act of 1885) shall be construed as a continuation of 16 thosesuchprior provisions and not as a new enactment; and 17 it is declared to be the legislative intent that any city, 18 village or incorporated town which has heretofore adopted and 19 become entitled to the provisions of said Act of 1885, shall 20 automatically become subject to the provisions of this 21 Article 6 and Articles 14 and 18 of this Act (as well as 22 certain sections in other Articles thatwhichare made 23 specifically applicable to thesuchcity, village or 24 incorporated town), which 3threeArticles together shall be 25 known as the City Election Law. 26 (Source: Laws 1943, vol. 2, p. 1.)
